El Rey del Caribe - A Cancun Downtown Hotel

I like this hotel for several reasons. It's virtually right downtown within walking distance of everything. Prices are excellent and the rooms are clean and air conditioned. Notice the small kitchenette. That's important to keep costs down. It is almost like having a small apartment. There is large grocery store (Commercial Mexicana) right next door.

There are few facilities at this hotel... no bar, no entertainment, nada! But you don't need anything as you are right downtown where things are happening a block away. They have recently put in a few tables for light meals, and a new bubbling Jacuzzi near the pool. But step out the front door and the entire city is right there. You can hail a cab in 2 minutes to go anywhere. The beach is only 10 minutes by cab (or city bus a block away).

El Rey del Caribe is very close to the entrance to the Hotel Zone. In my opinion it is the jewel of Cancun. Right downtown, close to favourite hang-outs like La Taberna, Walmart, Market 28, and still in proximity to the Hotel Zone entrance. The room prices are excellent and the kitchenette saves on food. Kind of like your own apartment at rock bottom prices.

You can pay at the front desk upon arrival. Visa/MC accepted (but they charge you 4% extra so it is better to go to an ATM machine and withdraw cash). They might charge you 4% extra for maid service too but this is generally only charged if a large group arrives.
